Chronic Periodontitis

Chronic periodontitis is a slower form of the disease that may take years to cause tissue decay and tooth loss. The gums are usually red and inflamed, with recession, but further damage doesn’t occur as quickly as with aggressive periodontitis.

Systemic Periodontitis

Some other disease conditions in the body can cause the onset of systemic periodontitis. Those are heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of respiratory diseases. With this kind of periodontitis, it’s not necessarily due to a lack of oral hygiene because it’s just the way the body responds to having some of these chronic illnesses.

Necrotizing Periodontal Disease

Another type of periodontitis that is developed after the body is suffering from certain conditions like malnutrition, HIV, or immunosuppression illnesses is necrotizing periodontal disease. The living tissue of the mouth is deteriorating along with symptoms brought on by these diseases when nutrition is lacking to keep the tissues, ligaments, and bones healthy.
